Privacy policy

1. Controller

This policy is based on the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). For users in the EU/EEA, it also serves as information under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), to the extent the GDPR applies.

2. What data is processed

• Account: username, password (stored only in encrypted form as a hash, readable by no one), optionally an e-mail address, language setting, settings for battery warnings and sharing, registration date.
• Your content: everything you enter – aircraft, transmitters, batteries, centre of gravity, flight log, notes, photos and videos.
• Photos: are reduced in size and re-saved on upload. In the process, metadata such as the location where they were taken (GPS) is lost.
• Videos: are stored unchanged and may contain metadata such as recording time, device or recording location.
• Contact form: Your name, email address, subject and message are sent by email to the Operator (see section 6) and are not stored in the Hangar. To protect against abuse, the IP address is stored for one hour.
• Technical data: In the case of failed logins and failed human verification checks, the IP address is stored for 15 minutes to protect against abuse. The hosting provider logs access (IP address, time, page accessed, browser) in server log files.

3. Purpose

The data is processed only to operate the Hangar: displaying and storing your content, login, protection against abuse, backups and – if switched on – e-mails about batteries that have been kept charged for too long. There is no advertising, no tracking, no analytics services and no disclosure or sale of your data. There is no automated individual decision-making and no profiling.

Legal bases under the GDPR (for users from the EU/EEA):

• Providing the Hangar, your account and its functions (including sharing with other users and battery warnings according to your settings) and answering enquiries: the usage relationship under the Terms of use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR);
• Protection against abuse, server log files and backups: legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

4. Visibility to other users

By default, your username and your content are visible to all registered users and can be copied and reused by them (see terms of use, sections 4 and 5). You can switch off sharing under “Settings”. Your e-mail address and battery settings are not visible to other users – unless you use an e-mail address as your username; in that case it is visible as your username.

5. Cookies

Only technically necessary cookies are set:

• session cookie for login (deleted when the browser is closed),
• “Stay logged in” (180 days, only if ticked),
• selected language.

The human verification check runs entirely on this server, without Google or other external services. No external fonts, scripts or content are loaded.

6. Where the data is stored, recipients

The data is stored on a server of hosttech GmbH, Richterswil, in a data centre in Switzerland. hosttech processes the data as hosting provider on behalf of the Operator. E-mails from the Hangar (battery warnings) are sent via this server.

E-mails to kontakt@myhangar.ch and messages from the contact form are forwarded to a private mailbox of the Operator at Microsoft (Outlook.com). According to Microsoft, such data is stored in the mailbox’s region, in the United States or in other countries where Microsoft operates data centres. Microsoft Corporation is certified under the Swiss-U.S. and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Since 15 September 2024 the Swiss Federal Council has recognised an adequate level of data protection for US companies certified in this way; the European Commission has adopted a corresponding adequacy decision for the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

For users from the EU/EEA: Switzerland benefits from an adequacy decision of the European Commission. Storing your data in Switzerland is therefore permitted without additional safeguards.

The Operator creates backups of the database and keeps them privately.

7. Retention

Your data is stored for as long as your account exists. After your account is deleted, the data is removed; it may still be contained in backups until these are overwritten. Copies that other users have made of shared content remain.

8. Security

The connection is encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are stored only as a hash and the database cannot be accessed from outside. However, absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

9. Your rights

You can request information about your stored data at any time, as well as its correction or deletion. You can change or delete most information yourself in the Hangar. For everything else, an e-mail to kontakt@myhangar.ch is sufficient.

You also have the right to receive your data in a common electronic format (e.g. via the PDF export or as a file on request) and to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on a legitimate interest. You can lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC); users from the EU/EEA can also complain to the data protection supervisory authority of the country where they live or work.

10. Changes

This privacy policy may be amended. The version published here at the time applies.
